They characterized generative AI as a self-destructive force\u2014comparing it to a snake eating its own tail\u2014that threatens to eliminate the very companies producing the content used for training.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI products like ChatGPT and CoPilot are touted as producers of content, but in fact they are rapacious consumers, devouring human-authored content and delivering back to the world copies and derivative imitations of that same original content they consumed to achieve their commercial objectives,\u201d the lawsuit stated.<\/p>\n<p>This development follows a precedent set in 2023 when The New York Times filed a similar copyright infringement suit against OpenAI and Microsoft, a case that has since inspired other publications to join the legal fight.
