Entering Friday, the US side held a narrow 3-2 lead following Thursday’s fourball sessions. However, their momentum was completely dismantled as the global squad outplayed their American counterparts across every contest in the alternate-shot format.
The comprehensive victory significantly revitalizes the International team’s prospects of claiming the trophy, marking their best chance for a win since 1998 and only the second time they have triumphed since the event’s inception in 1994.
Geoff Ogilvy’s squad opened the scoring with Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama defeating Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman 3&2. Canadian partners Corey Conners and Nick Taylor delivered a standout performance, holding off world number one Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns by a single hole. Burns nearly salvaged a point with a dramatic 20-foot putt on the final hole that lipped out.
Open champion Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee also secured a crucial point, edging past Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark in a tight contest. Adam Scott and Christiaan Bezuidenhout followed with a comfortable 3&2 win over Justin Thomas and Cameron Young, while Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim closed out the day with a dominant 4&3 victory over Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.
The competition resumes on Saturday with four additional foursomes and four fourball matches scheduled. The event will conclude on Sunday with twelve decisive singles games.
