The partner of a Delaware woman fatally shot by a hunter who allegedly mistook her for a deer has condemned the incident, telling reporters the death was far from accidental.
Santos Maria Chilel Soto died six days ago after being struck by gunfire. Walter Moorhead has been arrested and charged on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the shooting.
Minivaldo Velásquez spoke to the Delaware public news outlet WHYY in an interview released on Thursday, expressing outrage at the justification often implied in such tragic errors. He insisted the killing was senseless and that Moorhead offered no valid excuse for his actions.
“I have never seen a deer with only two legs,” Velásquez said, highlighting the absurdity of the hunter’s alleged mistake. “It doesn’t make sense – no.”
The case has drawn attention as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter between Moorhead and Soto.
