A cyber attack on Dyfed-Powys Police in Wales has potentially exposed staff information, according to the force. The incident was first identified on 14 September, prompting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances.
Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that while the hack disrupted certain non-emergency systems, there is currently no evidence that personal data belonging to the public was accessed or compromised. Online and email contact services were temporarily unavailable following the attack but have since been restored. Emergency 999 and non-emergency 101 lines remained operational throughout the breach.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has been notified of the incident. An ICO spokesperson stated they are assessing the breach report provided by the police. Officers, along with external cybersecurity specialists, implemented precautionary measures to secure systems while the investigation proceeds.
A force spokesperson acknowledged the disruption but sought to reassure the public, stating, “We understand the potential concern this may cause.” While confirming that public data appears safe, the police emphasized that they are continuing to investigate whether employee information was accessed. Appropriate advice will be provided to any staff members whose details may be affected.
The force serves a population of over 500,000 people across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and Powys, including a significant tourist demographic. According to March 2026 figures, the organization employs 1,349 police officers and 1,063 staff and support personnel.
