‘Miss Violence’ Director Alexandros Avranas to Helm Greek Adaptation of Globoplay Hit ‘The Others’

Alexandros Avranas, the director behind the Venice Film Festival Silver Lion-winning drama “Miss Violence,” has been tapped to direct the Greek adaptation of Globoplay’s hit series “The Others.” The production is currently underway, following a format sales agreement finalized in late 2024 between Greek broadcaster Alpha TV and Brazilian media giant Globo.

Created and written by acclaimed Brazilian television creator Lucas Paraizo, “The Others” explores the volatile dynamics between two neighboring couples. The narrative begins when a altercation between their teenage sons ignites a feud that spirals into absurdity, illustrating how a complete breakdown in communication can escalate a minor dispute into a catastrophic conflict.

The series has emerged as one of Globoplay’s most successful original productions, building on the international momentum of Paraizo’s medical drama “Under Pressure,” which was distributed to over 60 countries. In Brazil, the franchise continues to thrive with the recent premiere of its third season this year.

The Greek cast features Maria Nafpliotou, known for “Café 404,” alongside Charis Fragulis, Nikos Psarras, and Paschalis Terzis. The project is produced by Primavisione and will air on Alpha TV. Additionally, the broadcaster is set to produce a local version of the telenovela “All The Flowers” through the same production company.

To observe the progress, Lucas Paraizo visited the set in Greece, where he watched the filming of a pivotal first-season scene involving the characters Cibele and Wando confronting each other over their sons’ fight. “I witnessed the enthusiasm of the cast, crew, and director Alexandros Avranas, whom I’ve admired since his feature film ‘Miss Violence,'” Paraizo stated. “I am sure it will be a success in Greece, a country that shares many similarities with Brazil.”

Angela Colla, Globo’s Head of International Business, highlighted the deal as a significant milestone in the company’s global format strategy. She noted that the partnership with Alpha TV demonstrates the strength of Brazilian narratives across borders, expressing excitement about how the story will resonate with Greek audiences.
