Saudi Arabia announced that it successfully intercepted six ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels. The strikes, carried out by the Saudi-led coalition operating in Yemen, were directed at the western city of Taif and the Yanbu region along the Red Sea coast. Yanbu serves as a critical alternative export route for Saudi crude oil.
The latest attacks have contributed to a surge in global oil prices, which reached their highest level in a week. Market anxiety is growing over the potential for further disruptions to energy supplies in the volatile region.
While the coalition stated the projectiles aimed at Taif and Yanbu, the Houthis claimed their attacks targeted a “sensitive target” in the capital, Riyadh, as well as facilities belonging to state oil giant Saudi Aramco in the Yanbu area.
