Cryptic new clips featuring Dakota Johnson alongside other performers have captivated online audiences, but they are not from her film “Verity.” Instead, they serve as a teaser for Taylor Swift’s upcoming music video for “Patient Zero.” Swift revealed the project during a brief 13-second sneak peek on Thursday, confirming Johnson as one of the video’s stars ahead of its full premiere at the MTV VMAs this Sunday.
Speaking on the red carpet for the London premiere of “Verity,” Johnson expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Swift. “Working with your friends is like the most fun thing on the planet because we’ve known each other for so long, we respect each other’s creative minds,” Johnson said. She added that she valued the opportunity to support her friend, noting, “to be able to work alongside her and support and assist and be a person whom she tells what to do is wonderful.”
Johnson also discussed the experience on Ambar Lee and Leah Briars’ Fangirl Nation podcast, describing the pair’s enduring bond. “Taylor and I have been friends for a really long time and we’re very close, and we decided to work together and it’s great,” she said. Although she typically advises against working with friends, Johnson admitted their dynamic works uniquely well: “Normally I would say ‘Don’t work with your friends,’ but we work really well together. It was so fun. So fun. It was the best.” Their close relationship was further solidified when Johnson attended Swift’s wedding at Madison Square Garden in July.
The announcement of “Patient Zero” follows Swift’s reveal of a new single on Tuesday and the upcoming album “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore” on Wednesday. The expanded edition of last year’s “The Life of a Showgirl” features four additional tracks: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon.” In a social media post, Swift credited the record’s creation to her fans’ historic support. “About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing… You gave ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ the biggest first week for an album in history,” she wrote. Swift explained that after celebrating the achievement in Sweden with collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, the team wrote new material inspired by gratitude. The new album is available for preorder and will release on Friday.
