A fire at a Starlink satellite facility in central Poland has been classified as a deliberate act of sabotage by the Polish government, a day after Danish intelligence issued a stark warning about escalating Russian aggression in Europe.
Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski stated that the blaze at the station in the Masovian Voivodeship on Wednesday night was intentionally designed to disrupt internet connectivity for key institutions, including the Ukrainian military. Speaking to public broadcaster TVP Info, he noted that ongoing investigations suggest the incident aligns with a “new Russian doctrine of attack,” though the Kremlin has not yet responded to the allegations.
The telecommunications center, which uses SpaceX systems to route internet traffic to Ukraine and other nations, remains operational despite the damage. This incident follows other recent security concerns, including Poland’s report that a Russian military helicopter briefly violated its airspace on the same day, prompting the scramble of fighter jets.
Separately, Denmark’s intelligence service released a new threat assessment indicating an expectation of intensified hybrid warfare from Moscow in the coming months. While acknowledging that a direct military attack remains “highly unlikely,” officials warned of a “low but growing risk” of limited strikes against NATO members. These warnings echo concerns from other European nations, including Germany and France, which have recently bolstered defenses against perceived Russian threats.
As tensions mount, violence continues in Ukraine. Overnight strikes on Kharkiv killed six agricultural workers at a farm, while attacks in Kyiv resulted in two deaths and eight injuries. More than 50 civilian sites were damaged in the capital, including a maternity hospital where a baby was born in a shelter during the assault.
Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky called for international assistance, specifically requesting ballistic interceptors to defend Ukrainian cities. He emphasized the need to halt President Vladimir Putin’s war efforts and hinted that Ukraine would target Russian energy infrastructure during the winter. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the UN Security Council that Moscow does not intend to pause the conflict.
