Robin Das, a professional cricketer for Essex, has been formally charged with two counts of rape. The 24-year-old top-order batter is scheduled to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 9 October.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Das was charged on 23 July 2026. This development follows his initial arrest on 27 August 2025, which was prompted by reports of a sexual assault in Brixton on 30 March 2024. A police spokesperson confirmed that specialist officers are currently providing support to the complainant.
Das last took the field for Essex in a One-Day Cup fixture against Middlesex on 21 July. That contest marked his sole senior appearance of the 2026 season. Since his arrest, the county club has maintained an immediate and ongoing suspension of the player.
Essex County Cricket Club issued a statement confirming that a male staff member under contract had appeared in court regarding an incident that occurred outside of club activities. The organization emphasized that it has remained in close contact with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA), and the Cricket Regulator throughout the process.
“Throughout, the club has remained in contact with the ECB, PCA, the Cricket Regulator and the player with regard to the matter, which included an immediate and ongoing suspension,” the club stated. “The club will continue to follow all appropriate legal processes and guidance.”
The club further noted its commitment to strict safeguarding and human resources procedures, asserting that all employees are held to the highest standards of professional conduct. Due to the progression of legal proceedings, Essex declined to provide additional comment.
Das debuted for Essex in 2020. His career statistics include nine first-class matches, 29 games in 50-over cricket, and 24 T20 appearances, two of which were played for the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League. In total, he has made 60 appearances for the county.
