Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown plans to accept a plea agreement regarding an attempted murder charge in Miami that will allow him to avoid prison time, his attorney confirmed on Wednesday.
Brown is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday to finalize the arrangement. While the deal sidesteps incarceration, he faced a potential sentence of up to 30 years if convicted on the original charge.
The legal proceedings stem from an incident on May 16, 2025, following a celebrity boxing match in Miami. According to an arrest warrant, Brown allegedly seized a handgun from a security staff member and discharged two shots at a man with whom he had previously engaged in a physical altercation. Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu stated that one bullet grazed his neck.
Brown has maintained through social media that he acted in self-defense, claiming he was protecting himself from an attack and preventing the theft of his jewelry.
Defense attorney Mark Eiglarsh acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but emphasized the practical realities of the case. “Antonio believes in his innocence. He believes strongly in his Stand Your Ground defense, and he believes he would ultimately prevail at trial,” Eiglarsh said. “But when prosecutors put an offer on the table that transforms a potential decades-long prison sentence into a significantly reduced charge and probation, there was simply no way he could reasonably turn it down.”
