Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following his conviction last year for committing a criminal sexual act against a former employee.
During the proceedings, accuser Miriam Haley delivered a victim impact statement, describing the assault as having a “devastating effect” on her life and sense of security that she believes will never fully resolve.
Weinstein, who appeared in court via wheelchair, denied the allegations but offered an apology to “anyone I may have hurt by my actions.”
This new sentence runs concurrently with an existing 23-year prison term Weinstein is currently serving for separate rape and sexual assault convictions.
Do these sentences run concurrently or consecutively? It feels like he could still be out in a decade given the math here.
Finally, accountability. The length of this sentence sends a clear message that power does not grant immunity from the law.
