Amid widespread transfer fee inflation, few deals under £20m are typically considered bargains. However, Roma’s acquisition of Porto playmaker Mora may serve as a notable exception to this trend.
Mora has attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs since making his mark for Porto’s B-team at the age of 15. Porto had anticipated that his €70m (£59.5m) release clause would be triggered during the summer of 2025. When that did not occur and Mora fell out of favor under new head coach Francesco Farioli, Roma moved in with a proposal of €25m (£21.4m), including a 50% sell-on clause that can be negotiated away.
The opportunity also appealed to Mora personally, who expressed enthusiasm about working under Gian Piero Gasperini. “He played a big part in my decision to come here because he likes players with my qualities, and I’m a fan of the way he wants his teams to play,” Mora stated.
Early indicators suggest the move could be highly successful for the Italian side. Mora already scored his first goal for Roma in their strong start to the Serie A campaign against Lecce.
