President Donald Trump has officially signed a commission to appoint Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the permanent national security adviser, according to a White House official.
This development marks a significant consolidation of power, as Rubio becomes the first individual to serve as both secretary of state and national security adviser simultaneously since Henry Kissinger held the dual roles during the Nixon and Ford administrations.
The appointment was initially reported by MS NOW. Rubio had been serving in the national security adviser capacity on an interim basis following his appointment as secretary of state.
Does this mean less oversight? Seems risky to concentrate so much influence in one person’s hands.
Wow, this is huge news. I didn’t think they would merge the roles so permanently.
Interesting choice. I hope Rubio can balance diplomacy with security, unlike his predecessor’s more aggressive stance.
Combining these roles like Kissinger? That feels like a massive centralization of power we might not be ready for.
