Mikel Arteta is poised to remain at Arsenal after agreeing to a new contract extension with the Premier League champions. The 44-year-old’s previous agreement, signed in September 2024, was scheduled to expire next summer.
Since his appointment in 2019, Arteta has significantly improved the club’s fortunes. Last season, he guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years, ending a run of three consecutive second-place finishes. He also led the side to only their second-ever Champions League final, where they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties. His trophy cabinet at the club also includes an FA Cup and three Community Shields.
Arteta addressed his contract situation ahead of Saturday’s match against Brighton, stating that he and the club leadership are in full agreement. “I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we’ll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about,” he said. “I think we both have the same ambition and the same will. So whenever we have time, we’ll get that resolved.”
Formal confirmation of the new deal is anticipated during the current international break.
