Authorities in western Turkey reported that eight individuals, including students, were injured after an armed man opened fire near a vocational high school on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province, prompting a rapid emergency response and a subsequent police manhunt.
According to a statement released by the governor’s office on X, reports of gunfire reached officials at approximately 07:59 local time near the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. The injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Security forces apprehended the suspect shortly after the attack as he attempted to flee the scene. Several images circulated online showing the armed individual near the school grounds holding a weapon. Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody, though the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
This event marks the third school-related shooting in Turkey in less than six months. In April, a former student wounded 16 people, mostly pupils, at a high school in Sanliurfa province before taking his own life.
