Typhoon Dujuan has resulted in at least two fatalities in Japan, according to authorities reporting on Tuesday. The storm, which drove violent winds reaching 144 kilometers per hour (89 mph) through the region, triggered landslides and widespread travel disruptions while leaving tens of thousands of households near Tokyo in darkness.
As of Tuesday morning, the system was moving away from the Japanese archipelago, prompting officials to downgrade most warnings related to heavy rain and potential landslides. Despite the improvement in warnings, power had yet to be restored to approximately 50,000 homes that had been cut off by the severe weather conditions.
