Meta’s artificial intelligence assistant, Muse, is no longer permitted to conduct shopping tasks on Amazon for its users. As first reported by GeekWire, the restriction began on Sunday when affected users encountered a notification stating that continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use.
The conflict stems from what Amazon identifies as a breach of protocol and security standards. Reports indicate that Meta failed to notify Amazon prior to Muse attempting to access the retailer’s platform. Additionally, Amazon raised alarms regarding Muse’s behavior during browsing sessions, noting that the agent did not identify itself as an AI and appeared to be capturing customer credentials.
Amazon emphasized its stance on third-party automation, stating, “We think it’s fairly straightforward that third-party applications that offer to make purchases on behalf of customers” must adhere to specific guidelines.
