Commemorating a decade since its premiere, the ‘My Hero Academia’ franchise is launching a reworked rendition of its flagship theme, ‘You Say Run.’ Toho Co., Ltd. announced that composer Hayashi Yuki has teamed up with the German group Electric Callboy to produce the ’10th Anniversary Ver.,’ which will be available globally starting Sept. 22.
The updated track made its live debut on Sept. 20 during the ‘My Hero Academia in Concert’ performance in London. Electric Callboy members Kevin Ratajczak and Nico Sallach collaborated with Hayashi, who penned new English lyrics for the anniversary edition. According to Toho’s music division, the search for international talent aimed to capture the series’ high-octane spirit through powerful vocals and melodic strength, leading to the selection of the genre-blending band.
Ratajczak expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting the uplifting nature of the original melody. ‘We are beyond excited to have this opportunity to add our vocals to ‘You Say Run,’ he said. ‘The melody is so powerful and uplifting – we just absolutely love this song.’ Sallach echoed these sentiments, describing the project as both enjoyable and an honor.
The new arrangement merges the song’s traditional orchestral elements with Electric Callboy’s distinctive blend of electronic dance music and pop hooks. Hayashi commented on the fusion, stating, ”You Say Run,’ one of the signature tracks representing ‘My Hero Academia,’ has been reborn with an unprecedented surge of energy by fusing with the incredible vocals of Electric Callboy.’
Alongside the musical release, Bones Film unveiled special commemorative artwork featuring protagonist Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, executing his signature ‘Smash’ move. The illustration pays homage to the cover art of the anime’s first season soundtrack. Hayashi added, ‘I truly hope the song crosses borders and genres, reaches as many hearts as possible, and resonates passionately with everyone.’
The release serves as part of the broader ‘My Hero Academia The Animation 10th Anniversary’ initiative, which is scheduled to run through 2026 with additional details to be shared on the project’s official website. The manga by Kohei Horikoshi concluded in August 2024 after surpassing 100 million copies sold worldwide. The anime adaptation, currently in its eighth and final season which premiered in fall 2025, spans over 170 episodes and four theatrical films.
Hayashi Yuki producing this is a genius move. The original orchestral version was great, but this fusion could be legendary.
