New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet on Monday at Gracie Mansion, the official mayor’s residence in Manhattan, according to confirmations from both city officials and the White House on Sunday.
While a specific time for the discussion was not disclosed, a city source stated the meeting will address issues impacting New York City and its residents. A White House official verified that the encounter is confirmed.
This appointment marks the first time the two leaders have met in New York City. Mamdani has previously traveled to Washington, D.C., at least twice to consult with the president at the White House. During a cordial meeting in November 2025, the pair pledged to collaborate on making the city more affordable and improving overall living conditions. In February, their discussions centered on housing development.
Mamdani indicated that he and the president maintain contact on various matters outside of their formal in-person meetings. Earlier this year, he told CBS News that he prefers to keep the frequency and nature of these conversations private, noting that confidentiality is essential to the premise of their dialogue.
The ongoing rapport between the two figures stands in contrast to their 2025 mayoral campaign, during which Mamdani ran as a democratic socialist critical of Trump, while the president strongly opposed Mamdani’s candidacy. Trump went so far as to threaten arrest and deportation of the mayor-elect at the time.

I wonder what specific housing issues they’re tackling this time around. Hope it brings results.
Does anyone else find this relationship bizarre? They barely got along before the election.
Wild to see Trump and Mamdani working together now. The 2025 campaign was intense!
