One Dies After Glider Collision in Upstate New York

A fatality has been reported after two glider planes collided in mid-air on Friday afternoon in upstate New York. New York State Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:26 p.m. following the initial report.

Investigators located debris over two hours later in a remote section of Edinburg in Saratoga County, situated off Sand Lake Road. According to a police statement, one of the gliders managed to land safely at the nearby Plateau Sky Ranch Airport, and its pilot was uninjured.

The second aircraft was occupied solely by one person at the time of the impact. Authorities confirmed that the pilot of this plane was found deceased at the crash site.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified of the incident. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.
