High School Teacher Makes Rare T. Rex Track Discovery in North Dakota Badlands

A high school teacher who also serves as a research associate for the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has uncovered dinosaur tracks in North Dakota that are believed to belong to Tyrannosaurus rex.

Kent Hups made the finding within the state’s rugged Badlands terrain. The discovery highlights the area’s reputation as a key location for paleontological research, offering new insights into the movement and presence of prehistoric predators in the region.

Hups balances his scientific pursuits with his role in education, bringing real-world geological findings back to his students. The identification of T. rex tracks is considered a significant event, as fossilized footprints provide researchers with data on dinosaur behavior and anatomy that complements skeletal remains.
