Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have sparked controversy ahead of their Championship clash against Southampton by releasing a social media video that directly references the Saints’ recent espionage scandal. The A-list duo used the platform to take a light-hearted jab at their weekend opponents, who face them at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

Southampton were excluded from the play-off final and handed a four-point deduction after it was revealed that an intern had observed semi-final rivals Middlesbrough during a training session. Similar infractions were also identified involving Oxford United and Ipswich Town earlier in the season.

In the 59-second clip posted to Wrexham’s X account, Reynolds emerges from behind a tree to promote shirt sponsor Firefox. He begins by stating, “Today, for no particular reason, we want to talk about the importance of privacy.” McElhenney, known for creating The it’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, chimes in to add, “Specifically, how to prevent spies from seeing what you’re doing.”
