An Australian competitor has expressed remorse following a controversial Hyrox event in Beijing, where she admitted to soiling herself during the race yet continued to compete. Joanna Wietrzyk, who ultimately claimed victory in the competition, has formally apologised to the Chinese public, fellow athletes, spectators, and event organizers for her actions.

Speaking via Instagram, Wietrzyk described her regret regarding the decision to remain in the race despite the medical distress she experienced. She stated that she offered a “sincere apology” for the incident that unfolded during the Beijing competition.

As a result of the event, Wietrzyk is forfeiting the points associated with her win. The incident has sparked significant discussion within the sporting community regarding conduct and health protocols in endurance racing.
