At Least 19 Injured as Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia

Ukrainian authorities confirmed on Thursday that at least 19 individuals were wounded during a series of Russian missile and drone assaults targeting the capital, Kyiv, and neighboring oblasts. The Ukrainian Air Force intercepted or destroyed 131 aerial targets throughout the night, identifying Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa as the primary focus of the strikes.

Debris from downed projectiles fell at five distinct sites, while hits were recorded across 36 locations. Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that its forces struck metallurgical and electronics facilities, military-industrial factories, and transport infrastructure within these three regions. The ministry further alleged that Ukrainian military supply ferries and bulk carriers were hit in the port city of Chornomorsk.

In Odesa, the State Emergency Service reported seven casualties, including two minors. High-rise apartments in a residential block sustained damage, and a private home was completely destroyed. Additional harm was inflicted on warehouses, a nursery school, vehicles, and garages, according to emergency service updates on Telegram.

Kyiv’s Dniprovsky district saw damage to a warehouse, office building, residential structures, and cars. Nearby districts also reported damage: a warehouse in Solomyansky and combined warehouse and vehicle damage in Darnitsky. In Podilsky, the roof of a non-residential building was compromised.

Surrounding Kyiv regions, including Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv, and Bucha, were also targeted. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Administration, noted that 33 sites were damaged, with Brovary suffering the most at 14 locations and Fastiv at 10. Although homes, production facilities, and vehicles were affected, no injuries were reported in these areas.

These attacks occurred shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an agreement between Kyiv and Moscow to halt strikes on energy infrastructure, a move Trump attributed to rising global diesel costs. However, Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands, reporting from Kyiv, indicated that neither side has actually adhered to this suspension, with Russia vowing to intensify assaults on Ukraine’s power grid ahead of winter. Ukrainian energy providers anticipate another difficult season, though they remain hopeful conditions will not mirror the near-collapse experienced last year.

In response to the ongoing conflict, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that a Ukrainian drone strike hit an oil refinery in Yaroslavl, northeast of Moscow. Regional governor Mikhail Yevrayev confirmed that the resulting fire was extinguished. Zelenskyy also reported that warplanes and helicopters were damaged during an attack on a military base in Rostov and noted “good results” in the Black Sea, though he provided no further specifics.
