Sen. Cassidy Blames Trump Administration for Pennsylvania Measles Deaths

Senator Bill Cassidy, the Republican chairman of the Senate health committee, held the Trump administration responsible for the recent measles fatalities in Pennsylvania, citing the administration’s skeptical stance on vaccines as a contributing factor.

During a Wednesday hearing, Cassidy challenged Donald Trump’s nominee for surgeon general to explicitly affirm that vaccines do not cause autism. The Louisiana physician, who leads the committee, stated that at least three individuals in Pennsylvania died from the disease, with a fourth death currently under review, all due to the spread of misinformation and poorly conceived policies.

These comments emerge as the United States contends with its most severe measles outbreak in over thirty years, marking what Cassidy described as a “terrible legacy” for the current administration.

  1. I guess there’s a fine line between questioning credentials and asking for basic medical facts. Why is stating vaccines don’t cause autism so controversial now?

  2. Does the Surgeon General nominee actually have to answer, or is this just performative politics? I’m curious what their exact stance is.

  3. I had no idea the outbreak was this severe. Three confirmed deaths is terrifying for a disease we thought we had under control.

  4. It is deeply troubling to see political ideology directly impacting public health outcomes like this. Lives are at stake here.
