A building in Gaza City that was sheltering approximately 100 displaced Palestinian families has collapsed following Israeli airstrikes, resulting in at least 20 fatalities. Rescue teams are currently combing through the debris in an effort to locate dozens of individuals believed to be trapped underneath, among them children.
According to a statement from Gaza’s civil defence, emergency responders recovered the bodies of five children among the victims. Meanwhile, 25 injured people were transported to hospitals for treatment.
Medical sources report that rescuers have been able to hear the voices of survivors buried beneath the rubble as they attempt to reach them. However, the search and rescue operations are being significantly hindered by a shortage of heavy machinery required to safely move the debris.
This is the third collapse this month. When will the aid agencies step in with proper equipment?
