A Russian drone strike targeted a passenger bus in Ukraine’s southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region on Wednesday, killing five people and wounding at least seven others. The attack occurred in the vicinity of Nikopol, an area close to the frontline and situated across the Dnipro river from Russian-occupied territories.
Oleksandr Hanzha, the regional governor, confirmed the incident via Telegram, sharing images of a white minibus with shattered windows and blood visible on its exterior. He described the vehicle as carrying individuals engaged in their daily routines.
Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council, condemned the assault, stating that Russian forces “cynically” struck a civilian transport vehicle.
Nikopol has frequently been subjected to Russian aerial attacks due to its strategic proximity to the front. There was no immediate comment from Russian authorities regarding the strike. Both Kyiv and Moscow have historically denied intentionally targeting civilians, despite thousands of civilian casualties reported since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.
