In a significant legislative move, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a war powers resolution on Tuesday aimed at curbing President Trump’s ability to conduct military operations in Iran. The measure advanced by a vote of 220-204, reflecting a coalition of Democratic members and a handful of Republican defectors.
The resolution was sponsored by Rep. Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Massachusetts. Its passage marks a notable challenge to executive authority regarding the Middle East, as Congress seeks to reassert its constitutional role in authorizing military force.
The bipartisan support for the measure was bolstered by seven Republican representatives who crossed party lines to vote in favor. Among them were Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Warren Davidson of Ohio, Tom Barrett of Michigan, and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, along with two other Republican colleagues.
The vote underscores growing congressional concern over the scope of presidential power in directing military engagement without explicit legislative approval.
