The 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards concluded Sunday night with a notable victory for television talent who had recently appeared on the cover of Variety. Seven winners from this year’s ceremony had been featured in the magazine over the past twelve months, solidifying their status as both critical darlings and industry award recipients.
Leading the group was Matthew Rhys, who took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in Widow’s Bay. Rhys also secured a win in the limited or anthology series category for his role in The Beast in Me.
Jean Smart was honored as the lead actress in a comedy series for her work on Hacks, while David Harbour claimed the award for supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for DTF St. Louis.
In additional coverage from the event, Rob Reiner was awarded a posthumous Emmy for his contribution to The Bear. The ceremony also highlighted victories for Linda Cardellini, who won for supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for DTF St. Louis, and Noah Wyle, who took the lead actor prize in a drama series for The Pitt.
Sally Field earned the award for lead actress in a limited or anthology series for Remarkably Bright Creatures, and Rhea Seehorn won for lead actress in a drama series for Plurbis.
The wins underscore the strong correlation between Variety‘s cover features and Emmy success this season, with all seven honorees receiving recognition for their performances across various genres and formats.
