4 Hospitalized After Crane Collapse at Miami Construction Site

Four individuals were transported to local hospitals following the collapse of a construction crane in Miami on Monday morning, according to officials.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. in the upscale Brickell district. Miami Fire Chief Robert Hevia addressed reporters later that day, expressing relief that the event, which also involved a burning vehicle, resulted in no fatalities.

Hevia described the scene as “incredible,” noting the chaotic nature of the aftermath. A female motorist driving on an adjacent street reported witnessing the structure begin to tip. She managed to reverse her vehicle slightly to escape just before the crane landed on it, causing the car to catch fire.

The machinery also crushed a storage container housing two construction workers. Chief Hevia detailed a complex rescue operation wherein one crew member worked to cut the trapped employees free from the metal box while another addressed the vehicle fire.

All three individuals—the two trapped workers and the crane operator, who reportedly jumped clear as the apparatus fell—were taken to a nearby trauma center with minor injuries. The driver of the car was treated at a separate hospital for minor injuries as well.

Hevia confirmed that all other personnel at the construction site were accounted for. While officials have not yet determined the specific cause of the failure, the investigation is underway. The equipment involved was identified as a piling rig, a device typically mounted on a crane base but designed to drive columns deep into the ground to support large structures.

The identities of the injured parties have not been released.
