The Property Masters Guild (PMG) honored outstanding prop design across film and television during its third annual MacGuffin Awards ceremony on Saturday. The event recognized key contributors from major productions including “One Battle After Another,” “Frankenstein,” and “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
Matthew Cavaliero and Robbie Duncan received the Contemporary Feature Film award for their work on “One Battle After Another.” In the Period Feature Film category, Christopher Geggie was honored for his contributions to “Frankenstein.” Brad Elliott and Melissa Spicer won the Fantasy/Science Fiction Feature Film award for “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
The guild highlighted the vital role property masters play in storytelling. Co-chairs Corvino Elliott and Lauren Shell emphasized that these artisans create character and build the worlds in which stories unfold, often driving the narrative through their props.
Television winners included Sarah Snyder for “The ‘Burbs” in the One-Hour Contemporary category, Nicole Ruby for “Spider-Noir” in the Period category, and Brad Einhorn with Andy Siegel for “Fallout” in the Fantasy/Science Fiction division. Morgan Kling took home the award for the Half-Hour Single-Camera category with “Widow’s Bay.”
Special recognitions were also presented at the ceremony. Luis Castro received the Humanitarian Award for his work as a food stylist, while Trish Reilly was honored with the President’s Award for her contributions to the property craft and food styling on projects such as “Obi-Wan,” “Rebel Moon,” “The Orville,” “Grotesquerie,” and “American Horror Story.” Barry Wilkinson was celebrated with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his more than four-decade career in the property department.
Loved seeing the Fallout crew recognized. That show’s aesthetic relies entirely on those incredible practical props.
Did they really call them MacGuffin Awards? Bit on the nose for a prop ceremony, don’t you think?
