Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demanded a fundamental restructuring of international governance institutions, arguing that developing nations within the Global South are disproportionately affected by global decisions in which they have no meaningful voice.
Speaking at the opening of the BRICS summit held in New Delhi on Friday, Modi challenged the participating leaders to dismantle what he described as a “pyramid of privilege.” He called for the establishment of a more balanced system that ensures equitable representation and decision-making power for emerging economies.
The appeal highlights growing frustration among Global South countries regarding the current structure of international bodies, which they argue fails to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities.
