Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has raised concerns that his country is becoming overly entangled in American military strategies, potentially dragging it unwillingly toward war with China.
Speaking at the National Press Club this week, Rudd emphasized the critical nature of physical security in what he described as the world’s most contested geopolitical region. He stated that securing the future of the Australian people remains the government’s primary obligation.
Experts have warned that Australia is increasingly being exploited by its ally, the United States, which could compel Canberra into a conflict it did not seek. Rudd’s comments highlight the growing tension between maintaining the strategic alliance with Washington and avoiding direct confrontation with Beijing.
