UK Boy Diagnosed With Erythema Ab Igne From Daily Laptop Use

Concerns regarding the impact of modern electronics on children are longstanding, with screens frequently accused of causing various physiological and cognitive issues. A recently published medical case report highlights a distinct physical harm associated with this technology.

In BMJ Case Reports, UK physicians Mara Znagoveanu and Edward Artley documented the condition of a mid-childhood boy who presented at an emergency department with unusual discoloration on his abdomen. The affected area, spanning approximately 15 centimeters, featured flat, reddish-brown markings characterized by interlacing lines that formed irregular, lace-like circles.

The patient reported no pain, and the skin was neither warm nor tender. Neither the boy nor his parents could identify any recent trauma or injury responsible for the rash. The child was otherwise healthy, with no history of recent illness, fever, fatigue, or abnormalities in growth and medical history.
