Prince Harry’s Departure from African Parks Sparks Renewed Scrutiny of Conservation Group

Prince Harry is set to resign from his position at African Parks within weeks, a move the organization describes as part of a routine board reshuffle. However, the departure has intensified scrutiny of the wildlife conservation NGO, with critics arguing the relationship has become mutually damaging due to escalating allegations of human rights violations.

Harry, who served as president of African Parks from 2017 to 2023 before joining its board in 2023, was initially brought in to lend high-profile visibility to elephant conservation efforts. According to Dutch journalist and author Olivier van Beemen, Harry’s role was primarily to open doors for the organization, using his fame to attract media attention and secure donations from potential benefactors.
