Primark Plans UK Home Delivery Expansion in Major E-Commerce Shift

Primark has announced plans to introduce home delivery services across the United Kingdom, representing a major expansion of its e-commerce operations just four years after its initial online debut. The retailer confirmed it recently acquired a fulfillment center in Sheffield to facilitate shipping directly to customers’ doors.

This move follows Primark’s first step into digital retail in 2022, when it launched a click-and-collect model that required shoppers to travel to physical stores to retrieve their orders. The company stated that there is “opportunity for profitable growth” through direct deliveries, which could help revitalize trade following a period of subdued sales attributed to unusually hot weather.

Associated British Foods (ABF), Primark’s parent company, confirmed in a statement that while the fashion chain will continue to grow its click-and-collect services, it has decided to offer home delivery in Great Britain in the future. However, ABF did not specify an exact launch date for the new service.

Financial outlooks from ABF predict a modest 1% increase in UK sales for the fourth quarter, though like-for-like sales are expected to drop by 3% once the impact of store openings and closures is removed. The retailer noted that autumn and winter clothing sales were delayed due to the summer heatwave, but trading conditions improved as temperatures cooled toward the end of the quarter.

The strategic shift comes as Primark faces intensifying competition from fast-fashion rivals such as Shein and Boohoo, as well as alternative platforms like TikTok Shop and Vinted. In an effort to remain competitive during the recent online price war, the company announced price reductions on hundreds of clothing items in July.

Looking ahead, ABF plans to spin off Primark from its food business operations next year, signaling a continued focus on the fashion retailer’s standalone growth potential.

  1. Please tell me the delivery fees won’t be huge. That’s what keeps me away from fast fashion online these days.

  2. Does anyone else think this is just a desperate move because the hot summer ruined their clothing sales? Seems reactive, not strategic.

  3. Shein is moving too fast for Primark to play catch-up with home delivery. Will this actually make a dent in their market share?

  4. Took them long enough! I was wondering when the high street would catch up with the rest of us who expect free shipping.
