High-profile Israeli officials and former ministers have expressed support for newly imposed United Kingdom sanctions targeting illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. The measures, introduced by Ed Miliband, were described as a necessary reaction to escalating violence and the rapid pace of settlement expansion.
According to observers, the intervention was seen as unavoidable following what they characterized as failures by the Israeli government and security apparatus. Among those welcoming the move were the president of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, a former prime minister, a former chief of army staff, and several ex-ministers and diplomats.
Commenting on the decision, these prominent figures labeled the sanctions an “inevitable consequence” of the current political and security landscape. The statement marked a rare instance of senior Israeli voices publicly endorsing British action against settlement activities.
