No Man’s Sky Unveils ‘Cosmos’ Update for 10th Anniversary

Hello Games has released the Cosmos update, the most significant overhaul in the history of No Man’s Sky, coinciding with the game’s 10th anniversary. The free expansion is now available across all platforms, offering new tools for exploration, base building, and social interaction within the procedurally generated universe.

Since its release in 2016, No Man’s Sky has undergone a remarkable transformation. Initially criticized for falling short of developer promises, the title has been widely regarded as one of gaming’s greatest comeback stories. Over the past decade, Hello Games has consistently delivered updates that have brought the experience closer to founder Sean Murray’s original vision.

Described as the biggest change the universe has seen in ten years, the Cosmos update introduces several major features. Players can now construct and manage fully customizable space stations, serving various roles from interstellar restaurants to military outposts or truck stops. Additionally, free-floating orbital bases can be built anywhere in space, and new space outposts allow for trading with alien species.

The update also adds strippable space hulks and asteroid belts to the environment. For navigation, a new interactive star system map helps players track points of interest and plan routes through visited or upcoming systems. New Expeditions have been launched, focusing on milestone features introduced over the last ten years.

Socially, the update introduces galactic alliances. Players can create names and banners for their groups, join forces with others, compete for territory, and climb ranked leaderboards based on activity.

The full details of the Cosmos update are outlined in the official patch notes, which are available on the No Man’s Sky website. The update is live today on all supported platforms.
