The head of National Air Traffic Services (Nats) is scheduled to meet with the UK Transport Secretary today as the aviation sector grapples with a second consecutive day of significant disruptions caused by a technical failure at the air traffic control provider.
The cumulative effect of the technical issues has pushed the number of cancelled flights beyond 1,300. While airlines are currently operating, residual chaos persists as carriers work to reposition aircraft and crew following the previous day’s groundings. Travelers are strongly advised to verify their flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport.
In response to the ongoing turmoil, operators have apologized to affected passengers and deployed additional staff across terminals to assist travelers while they collaborate with Nats and airline partners to restore normal operations as swiftly as possible.
In global markets, oil prices climbed toward the $100 per barrel threshold for the first time since July. Brent crude surged 1.5% to reach $99.36 a barrel, driven by escalating attacks in the Middle East that have intensified fears regarding potential supply disruptions.
