White House Removes ‘Build the Wall’ Game After Tetris Company Objection

The White House has removed its browser-based game ‘Build the Wall’ from its official arcade platform. The title, launched on September 3, challenged players to stack digital bricks to construct a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border, applying classic block-stacking mechanics to contemporary immigration policy.

The decision to pull the game follows immediate pushback from The Tetris Company. Last week, the rights holder distanced itself from the project, citing copyright infringement due to the game’s deliberate resemblance to the iconic puzzle title.

On September 4, The Tetris Company issued statements via Instagram and X condemning the divisive rhetoric featured in ‘Build the Wall’ and affirming its commitment to community and connection. The company also emphasized that it takes copyright violations seriously. While it declined to confirm whether legal action would follow, a spokesperson told Engadget that it was reviewing the situation to determine appropriate next steps.

Although other titles on the White House arcade site, such as ‘Flappy Bill’ and ‘Rio Run,’ also mimic existing games, ‘Build the Wall’ drew unique scrutiny. The swift removal suggests that even moderate public pressure can compel the administration to retract controversial content.

  1. So now even video games are political battlegrounds? I just wanted to stack blocks without thinking about policy.
