Mac Allister says he is ‘very sad’ Liverpool did not offer new contract

Alexis Mac Allister has expressed disappointment after Liverpool confirmed they would not be offering him a new deal, though the Argentine midfielder vowed to remain fully committed to the squad. The 27-year-old admitted he is “very sad” by the decision but insisted he will “give 100% until my last day” at Anfield.

Mac Allister revealed his frustration regarding his contractual status prior to Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid on Wednesday. Although he has two years remaining on his current agreement, he stated that he was informed no extension is currently available, leaving him to feel as though he is effectively playing for a new contract.

Despite interest from major European clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester City, Mac Allister turned down opportunities to leave during the summer transfer window. He cited the desire to help the team achieve “something special” this season under manager Andoni Iraola as his primary reason for staying.
