Scott McTominay, the Scottish midfielder for Napoli, successfully underwent surgery on Tuesday to address a minor heart condition, according to the Serie A club. The former Manchester United player was diagnosed with a heart rhythm disorder that required medical intervention.
In a statement released regarding the procedure, Napoli confirmed that McTominay underwent an ablation at Spire Manchester Hospital. The club described the operation as a complete success. McTominay is scheduled to rest for two weeks before resuming training.
The 29-year-old has been a significant figure for Napoli since his transfer from Manchester United in 2024, tallying 27 goals across 82 appearances. However, he has struggled for form during the first two matches of the current Serie A campaign.
As a result of the surgery, McTominay will miss Scotland’s upcoming Nations League matches against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia. Napoli, currently sitting on just three points from their opening three league games, faces Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday before playing Bologna and Fiorentina ahead of the international break.
