Dizzee Rascal Spotted at Oxfordshire Folk Festival

Music fans at a community folk festival in Oxfordshire were stunned by the appearance of grime and hip-hop star Dizzee Rascal during the BunkFest weekend in Wallingford. The artist, who has secured five UK number-one singles including “Bonkers” and “Dance Wiv Me,” was spotted hanging out at The Boat House pub on Sunday.

Charlie Garwood, a 23-year-old lab technician from Benson, recounted the unexpected encounter on the street. When Garwood approached the rapper, Dizzee stated he was merely “seeing a friend.” Garwood later observed the musician boarding a private boat on the River Thames. The initial disbelief was so strong that Garwood’s parents thought the photograph of the meeting was AI-generated.

“It’s so unexpected,” Garwood told the BBC. “He’s known for his dance anthems, we grew up listening to him… it’s just a cool thing.”

Inside The Boat House, where Ashley Carle works, the atmosphere was equally lively. Carle, a 21-year-old first-year psychology student, noted that Dizzee ordered a burger and praised it so highly that he placed a second order. After the rapper departed, she asked for a photo, to which he readily agreed.

“I know a million people have already asked but can I have a picture please?” Carle recalled. “He said: ‘Yeah, not a problem.'” She described the artist as a “very chilled guy” despite his fame.

BunkFest, one of the UK’s largest free family festivals, drew over 30,000 visitors to the banks of the River Thames from Friday to Sunday. Organized entirely by volunteers, the event received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. This year’s lineup featured performances by Dr. Feelgood, The Delicate Sound of Pink Floyd tribute band, and the supergroup Blue Water Giants.

A festival spokesperson expressed hope that the rapper enjoyed the volunteer-run event, adding, “If Dizzee was here we hope he enjoyed Wallingford’s free family festival.”

  1. He ordered a second burger and called it brilliant. Honestly, relatable. Would love to see him perform there next year.
