A new documentary directed by Miro Remo ventures into the Czech countryside to document the unconventional existence of two brothers who have retreated from society. The film follows František and Ondřej Klišík as they navigate a reclusive life in a cabin within the Šumava mountains, a journey described as a blend of madness and potential enlightenment.
Narrated from the perspective of a slaughtered bull, the film takes an unorthodox approach to capturing the daily routines of the twins. Based on a short story by Aleš Palán, Remo immerses himself in the brothers’ environment, encouraging their erratic debates and contributing his own surrealistic elements to the narrative.
The two brothers, both approaching their 60s, manage a small farm with the assistance of Nandy, a rebellious bull unsuited for draft work. During their leisure time, they drink, exchange barbed banter, and engage in intense arm-wrestling matches. František, who lost an arm in a sawmill accident, typically emerges victorious despite his physical limitation.
František is characterized by a whimsical nature that contrasts with his brother’s more straightforward demeanor. He frequently shares poetic reflections and wishes well-being upon all sentient creatures, while simultaneously working on a perpetual flying machine inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s designs.
