Nintendo is dedicating a special 30-minute livestream to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise. The event takes place on September 8 at 10:00 AM ET, preceding a standard Nintendo Direct scheduled for the following day that will highlight titles coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Viewers can watch the broadcast live on YouTube or via the Nintendo Today! app. Nintendo has confirmed that significant updates regarding the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be shared during the stream. With the game slated for release later this year, a specific launch date is expected, potentially timed for late November to capitalize on the Black Friday shopping window.
The timing of the remake may also serve as a strategic counter to Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6. Additionally, attendees may see early footage of The Legend of Zelda film, which is set for theatrical release on April 30 next year. A brief teaser is anticipated, with a full trailer likely arriving in the coming months.
Given the duration of the presentation, speculation is high that Nintendo will reveal other surprises. Possibilities include a remake of The Wind Waker or the first official announcement of the next mainline installment in the series, which would align with the three-year gap since Tears of the Kingdom was revealed.
