Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the war against Russia appears set to continue through the winter, signaling that no immediate resolution is in sight. His comments followed a round of diplomatic discussions in Kyiv with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, which yielded positive assessments but no concrete breakthrough toward a peace agreement.
“We very much hope that we will be able to reach agreements with our American partners, and we are counting on the support of our European partners if the war continues in winter — and this is how it appears at the moment,” Zelenskyy said. He further noted that Ukraine plans to hold additional talks with representatives from the US, France, and Germany, though he did not provide specific details.
The meeting between Zelenskyy and the US delegation took place shortly after Kushner and Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. During the envoys’ visit, Putin announced a three-day pause in attacks on Kyiv, while Ukraine agreed to refrain from striking Moscow. Zelenskyy humorously remarked that the diplomatic presence had “worked better than the Patriot air defense systems.”
