No Man’s Sky and More Indie Titles Arrive on iOS for App Store’s Indie Games Week

Apple has kicked off its annual Indie Games Week on the App Store, bringing a slate of acclaimed independent titles to iPhones and iPads. The headline announcement is the mobile release of Hello Games’ expansive space survival title, No Man’s Sky, scheduled to launch on October 28.

While the game recently arrived on Mac in 2023, studio co-founder Sean Murray noted that developers had previously suggested the possibility of an iPhone port. The new iOS version includes all updates released over the last decade but mirrors the initial limitations of the Nintendo Switch launch by excluding multiplayer and settlement access at release. Murray confirmed that Hello Games plans to add these features to the iOS version over time based on player feedback, similar to their post-launch strategy for Switch 2.

The mobile adaptation features rebuilt touch controls, support for external controllers and mouse-and-keyboard input on iPad, and TV casting capabilities. Notably, the game requires less than 5GB of storage and runs on devices as old as the iPhone 11 and third-generation iPad Air. Users can pre-order the title starting today, with a free trial period available upon release.

Also debuting on iOS is Sloclap’s punishing revenge beat-em-up Sifu, which includes a reworked camera system and touch controls. The developer reported smooth performance on iPhone 16 hardware, a critical factor for the fast-paced action game. Other featured titles include Vampire Crawlers, a strategic card-based spinoff of Vampire Survivors; Dome Keeper, a roguelite combining mining and tower defense; Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall; 9 Kings; and Little Kitty, Big City. Several of these are available for immediate download.

Carson Oliver, Apple’s head of App Store Worldwide, emphasized the platform’s commitment to showcasing creative risk-takers. “Indie games are constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity to deliver unique gameplay experiences to Apple users,” Oliver said. “Whether from a solo developer or a growing studio, the App Store gives bold ideas a global stage.”

Apple has also curated additional indie recommendations and created a separate guide for indie titles compatible with Mac. The event highlights the growing ecosystem for independent developers on Apple’s platforms, with many titles designed to run efficiently across a wide range of device generations.

  1. Sifu on iOS sounds intense with those touch controls. I hope the reworked camera makes it actually playable without lag.

  2. Excluding multiplayer at launch is disappointing. Hello Games promised features over time, but why make us wait again?

  3. Finally, No Man’s Sky on mobile! Can’t wait to explore the cosmos from my couch without needing a PC.
