India’s Opposition Marches to Supreme Court Over Alleged Electoral Fraud

India’s main opposition party, the Indian National Congress, organized a rally at the Supreme Court on Sunday, calling for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid allegations of electoral manipulation. Protesters gathered at 08:00 GMT with the intention of submitting a memorandum directly to Chief Justice Surya Kant.

However, Chief Justice Kant declined to meet with the opposition leaders. According to the court, matters concerning the recent revision of electoral rolls—which resulted in approximately 130 million individuals being removed from voter lists—are already pending judicial review before the top court.

  1. The CEC should step down regardless of guilt, to restore public trust. Keeping this in court limbo just fuels the conspiracy theories.

  2. This is deeply concerning. Removing 130 million voters before an election feels like a systematic attempt to skew results.
