Apple TV+’s “Tehran” star Niv Sultan will return for a second season of the medical thriller “Heart of a Killer,” produced by Sipur Studios and North Road Company. The renewal was confirmed by Variety.
The first season, consisting of seven episodes, premiered earlier this year and quickly established itself as one of the most-watched titles on the Israeli streaming platform Hot. To capitalize on this momentum, Federation International, the distribution division of Federation Studios, is initiating worldwide sales for the show at the Mipcom market this week.
The series marks the second co-production between Shari Redstone’s Sipur Studios and The North Road Company, following their previous collaboration on the Netflix hit “Bad Boy.” The show was created by Liad Shoham, Gal Zaid—known for “Valley of Tears”—and Roni Yaddor. Production was handled by Endemol Shine Israel under the direction of Evgeny Ruman, who also helmed “East Side.” Sultan plays Dr. Dasi Nakash, a transplant surgeon who takes drastic measures to save a friend, only to become entangled in moral ambiguities, covert patient operations, and clashes with the darker side of the medical hierarchy. With support from Dr. Adam Kessler, she discovers that effecting change often demands heavy personal sacrifices.
The executive producing team includes Amir Ganor for Endemol Shine, Amy Israel for North Road, Emilio Schenker and Gideon Tadmor for Sipur, and Ori Gal, Dana Mendlinger, and Mirit Toovi for Hot.
Monica Levy, co-head of international sales at Federation International, expressed enthusiasm about introducing the series globally. She highlighted the show as a bold, high-stakes thriller featuring a remarkable lead performance by Sultan, whose popularity in “Tehran” demonstrates the series’ strong audience connection. Levy noted they are eager to present the show to buyers at Mipcom.
Sipur CEO Emilio Schenker echoed the excitement, citing the incredible launch in Israel where the series became one of Hot’s most-watched shows in recent years. He added that they are now focused on bringing the gripping narrative to new international audiences while commencing production on the second season.
Another medical drama? Sure, why not. As long as the ethical dilemmas aren’t too predictable, I’m in.
I finished the first season bingeing it last night. The cliffhanger was brutal—please tell me season two answers everything!
Good news for Israeli cinema! It’s refreshing to see local thrillers gaining global traction at Mipcom.
Wait, how does a transplant surgeon secretly operate on patients? That sounds dangerously unrealistic to me.
Niv Sultan is a powerhouse! Can’t wait to see how Dasi’s story evolves in season two.
