Thai horror feature “Rinrada: The Influencer” has finalized distribution agreements covering multiple territories in Asia and the Middle East, timed around its North American premiere at the upcoming Screamfest festival. Autumn Sun Films, a Hong Kong-based distributor and international sales agency specializing in Asian genre and arthouse cinema, is managing global sales for the project.
The film marks the first horror lead role for Thai entertainer Yoshi Rinrada. The plot follows a social media influencer whose existence is destroyed by a vicious online pile-on. After returning as a ghost with limited time to exact revenge, she forges an unexpected alliance along the way. The narrative utilizes supernatural elements to examine the realities of cyberbullying and public shaming.
Director and co-writer Artistaya Arriyawongsa helmed the production. An in-house director for producer Tham Studio19, Arriyawongsa previously worked on the studio’s hit “The Elite of Devils” (2024) and the 2020 release “Waning Moon.” Reflecting on the film’s themes, he stated, “Sometimes the monsters we fear are the ones we create ourselves.”
Elliot Tong of Autumn Sun Films highlighted Rinrada’s involvement, noting, “Our star, Yoshi Rinrada, is a true trailblazer in Thai entertainment with millions of followers of her own. Playing an influencer in her first leading horror role, she brings so much of herself to the part that it’s truly art imitating life.”
The territorial rollout begins in Macau, where the film will receive a theatrical opening at Studio City on Halloween, October 31. Vietnam is scheduled to follow in November. In Southeast Asia, SB Productions is handling releases in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. PT Cahaya Sinema Nusantara has acquired Indonesia, while release dates for the Philippines and Myanmar have not yet been announced. Moviecloud secured rights for Taiwan, and Empire Entertainment picked up Pakistan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
The distribution news was announced during the Asian Contents & Film Market at the Busan International Film Festival.
Interesting that they skipped India for the GCC and Pakistan instead. Probably a strategic choice, but I’d have loved to see it there.
Does anyone know if there are plans for a European or North American release beyond the Screamfest premiere?
Yoshi Rinrada in her first lead horror role? That sounds like a genuinely exciting career pivot for the Thai star.
Cyberbullying as a horror premise is so timely. Can’t wait to see how they handle the supernatural revenge angle.
